With the invitation of BBOM Ankara Cooperative, we carried out the second stage landscape work of Meraklı Kedi Elementary School between March and May 2016.
In 2015, we had made design and construction workshops with the participation of cooperative members and university students. We continued with the design and construction workshops this year to evaluate the new requests of the students as well as to complete the remaining deficiencies.
We first performed a one-day design workshop at the school on March 16, 2016. In the workshop where 4 members, 1 volunteer and about 25 kindergartens, 1st and 2nd year students attended, we first drawn a big plan of the garden on the paper hanging on the wall and discovered together with the students the place. Students expressed their wishes on the plan by drawing and writing their requests. After the drawing stage, students went out to the garden and shared their wishes with us on the spot again. On April 10, 2016 we continued with 5 members and 5 participants from Özyeğin University Architectural Club (OZUCAD). We created the main design decisions from the opinions and suggestions we received from the teachers and parents as well as the students in the previous workshop in March. The design decisions came from the idea of connecting the units with routes. In this context, we aimed to remove a part of the asphalt area in a controlled way, to build a treehouse, to create a tunnel called cat trap, to build an iron climbing unit, to build a wooden miniature castle and vegetable beds. At the same time, we made suggestions about plants and planting periods for the garden.
Another decision was to put out samples and made productions that can change according to the demands of users over time. In this direction, we started preparations for the construction workshop by sharing design decisions and examples with BBOM Ankara Cooperative.
The second stage construction works were conducted between May 28 and 31. The work was carried out with the participation of the members of the association and parents, as well as with the volunteers. Throughout the work, students sometimes joined us in practice, and sometimes they tested the manufactured elements instantly. Constructions ended with the wish of collective production again.
We would like to thank the BBOM Ankara Team who welcomed us so nicely and worked very hard during the workshop again just like the last year.
